The first ever Junior Roll Ball World Cup that was set to be held from April 15 to 22 in Nairobi has been postponed to June 22-29, 2025.

This follows extensive consultations between the International Roll Ball Federation, Kenya Roll Ball Federation and key stakeholders of the sport.

The inaugural junior championship tourney is expected to bring together players aged 17 and below with matches expected to be staged at the Kasarani and Ulinzi Sports Complex Indoor Arenas.

According to the federation president Samuel Litaba, the decision was made in order to allow participating countries more time to adequately prepare in handling the necessary documentation for the young players that includes seeking permissions from athletes' parents and ministries of education in the participating countries.

“As this championship primarily targets minors, it is crucial to ensure that all teams meet the required legal and logistical requirements for a smooth and successful event.

“The countries were requesting more time for the documentation for the juniors which is more tedious since most of the juniors do not have passports, and they also need permission from parents and from the ministry of education in their respective countries,” said Litaba.

At the same time, he rallied stakeholders, well-wishers and the general public to turn out in their numbers and watch the games at the Kasarani and Ulinzi Complex Indoor Arenas that allow for 5000 and 1000 seater capacities respectively.

“We wish to welcome all stakeholders and well-wishers and those who wish to watch the games to come out and offer their support. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by this change but firmly believe that this adjustment will contribute to a more successful and memorable event.”

The junior roll ball World Cup, the first of its kind for players aged 17 and below, is expected to attract both young and adult attendees who will have the privilege of witnessing the tournament unfold right before their eyes.

The game has gained traction in Kenya since it was introduced in early 2010 with the establishment of the Kenya Roll Ball Federation, its subsequent leagues and nationwide tournaments.

The Roll Ball World Cup is the sport`s highest level of competition and is held biennially where Kenya has proven itself as a powerhouse with both men`s and women's teams achieving exceptional success on the global stage that includes multiple Roll Ball World Cup titles.

Notably, the Kenya Women`s Roll Ball Team who were the defending champions at the 2023 Roll Ball World Cup in Pune, India and the men`s team who are currently the defending champions of the world.

The week-long tournament is expected to feature over 30 nations and will provide a global platform to showcase Kenya`s rich culture, scenic beauty and an array of Kenya`s products and services to an international audience.
