Jojo crowned eLigue1Tour champion in thrilling final

Jojo, a Kenyatta University student, showcased exceptional form throughout the tournament. He made an early statement with a dominant 7-1 win over Collins Ngugi in the quarter-finals before edging out tournament favorite Harry Kappa 4-3 in the semi-finals. Harun, on the other hand, battled his way to the final, defeating Sam Carter 1-0 in the quarters before stunning defending champion Eric "Demon" Ngige with a 4-2 victory in the semis.
The high-stakes final was a fiercely contested affair, with both players displaying skill and tactical brilliance. In the end, Jojo’s resilience and composure secured him the title, along with a Ksh. 25,000 cash prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris, courtesy of the French top-tier league, Ligue 1 McDonald’s. Harun took home Ksh. 15,000 as the runner-up.
For Jojo, the victory was a moment of redemption after falling short in last year’s edition.
“I am so happy. Last year, I bottled it in the finals, but clearly, God’s time is the best. He wanted it this way, that I would win this year. I have worked so hard, and it's great to see the results,” he expressed joyfully after his win.
The ladies’ exhibition category introduced a new star as 14-year-old Brilliant “Bree” Nekesa made a stunning debut. Bree dominated her opponents, cruising past Bernice with a resounding 7-0 victory in the semi-finals before dismantling Shantel Njogu 9-2 in the final.
“I am so happy to be a champion on my first attempt. I had some nerves playing on stage for the first time, but my coach helped me stay calm and stick to the plan. When I’m composed, I can take on any player,” said the teenage prodigy.
The grand finale was graced by notable dignitaries, including Prime Cabinet Secretary H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, French Ambassador H.E. Arnaud Suquet, and Nairobi Deputy Governor H.E. Njoroge Muchiri.
With thrilling matches and rising stars, the tournament highlighted the growing prominence of esports in Kenya, setting the stage for an even brighter future.
