Injera backs Shujaa to return to World Series in style
Celebrated Kenyan Rugby legend
Collins Injera has backed the
national sevens team Shujaa to shine when the World Sevens Series kicks off
later this month in Dubai.
Injera feels that the team has been
developing well under the leadership of Kevin Wambua, since taking over the
coaching role last season.
It is that trend that he hopes will
help the team improve on last season’s shows in the Challenger Series, and
match the global giants in the World Series.
“The team has developed well in the
recent times I have seen growth in the players and having them play in the Challenger
Series has really improved their skills as individuals and as a team,” said
Injera.
Shujaa participated in this year’s
Olympic Games in Paris, and Injera believes it was a good warm up for the
series.
“The Olympics exposure was great because it gave them a
feel of what to expect in the series. They faced teams that were title rivals in
the series during the Summer Games and now they can apply that experience in the series,” added Injera
Shujaa have been placed in a tough
pool which has South Africa, France and Australia for the opening leg in Dubai,
but the ex-Kenyan ace believes they can pull a surprise.
“In the series now days there is
nothing like a weak team, every team that is participating in the tournament is
tough so they need to believe in themselves and deliver good results,” stated
the former Mwamba ace.
After the Dubai series the team will
head straight to South Africa for the Cape Town Sevens a week later.
