In-form Kayole Starlets target Mathare United Women’s scalp

Kayole Starlets are aiming for their ninth consecutive win in the Women's National Super League when they face rivals Mathare United Women at Calvary Grounds, Kayole, on Sunday.

Head coach Mary Adhiambo has issued a warning to Mathare ahead of the highly anticipated "Eastlands Derby," vowing to maintain her team's impressive momentum.

Mathare handed Kayole their only defeat of the season with a 3-0 win in the first-leg clash in October. However, Adhiambo is confident her side has turned things around, especially with their recent resurgence in attack.

“We’ve worked on our weaknesses, particularly in finishing,” Adhiambo told Citizen Digital.

“I'm pleased that we've scored many goals in our last two matches, and I believe we can keep the momentum going.”

A key boost for Kayole Starlets is the recent acquisition of forward Valerian Nabwire from Mathare United Women, strengthening their attacking options as they push for Premier League promotion.

Having spent two seasons in the second tier, Kayole Starlets are determined to secure automatic promotion after falling short in the playoffs last season. Adhiambo credits their success this season to strategic squad improvements.

“We had a lot of young players last season, and that made it difficult to achieve our objectives,” she noted.

“This time, we brought in a few experienced players, and they have made a huge difference.”

A victory on Sunday would see Kayole Starlets open an eight-point lead at the top of the table, a crucial step in their title charge. They currently lead with 32 points, while Mathare United Women and Bandari Queens trail in second and third place with 27 and 24 points, respectively.
