Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche will make four changes to her squad ahead of
their last World Cup U-17 group C match against Mexico in the early hours of
Thursday.
Speaking after holding
their last training session that was cut short by heavy rains outside the match
day venue Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Cheche confirmed that
Lorine Ilavonga and Diana Onyango who are under the weather will be out of the
clash.
"Atleast four
changes with the two who are not feeling well and will be out of the encounter
but we hope to replace them as we target maximum points from the
encounter," explained Cheche.
With the changes,
Cheche who made history by taking a first Kenyan team to the World Cup added
that they will be aiming for goals and points as they target a strong finish
despite being already knocked out of the World Cup.
"Preparations are
in top gear and the girls know what the match means so we will try and get
goals because we have not scored any in the first two matches."
Kimberly Akinyi who is
hoping for a starting berth against Mexico exuded confidence that her teammates
will deliver Kenya’s first win.
"I am happy for
the playtime and we know as players that we have not registered good results in
the first two matches but we call on Kenyans to rally behind us as we target a
good outing in the Mexico's clash."
Kenya lost 2-0 in their
opening match against England before succumbing to another 3-0 defeat in the
hands of two-time champions Korea DPR while Mexico lost 4-1 and 4-2 against
Korea and England respectively.
