Hussein Mohammed urges electoral board to play it fair and square ahead of polls
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential candidate, Hussein Mohammed,
has emphasized the need for transparency ahead of the much-awaited FKF
elections.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mohammed urged the Electoral Board, which
was unanimously endorsed at the federation's Special General Meeting (SGM) last
month, to perform its duties without fear or favour.
“It was very important for the delegates to set the election date. I
have no issue with the electoral board. We want to encourage the board by
showing them our support and letting them do their work without intimidation.
All we want is a free and fair election where everyone will be satisfied.”
According to Hussein, the eligibility criteria in the revised 2020
Electoral Code needs further dialogue, for the sake of fairness.
“The politics of exclusion rather than inclusivity is where we are going
wrong. The rules they have put in the electoral code are wrong because they are
designed to exclude others, allowing one person to dominate the competition.
This is unacceptable in a democratic country,” he noted.
The Murang’a SEAL Vice Chairman, in the meantime, feels a lot has to be
done to fully professionalize Kenya's football.
“Globally, football has become a business that benefits all
stakeholders. But in Kenya, no one benefits from football. It’s time for us to
change this, and it's crucial for everyone to understand that the days of
treating football as just an extracurricular activity are over,” said Hussein.
Mohamed officially launched
his bid for the FKF presidency seat last Wednesday in a colourful ceremony held
at the Kenya National Theatre, Nairobi.
