The Kenya national hockey five-aside team will face Australia on Monday afternoon in a bid to seal a quarter-final slot at the ongoing International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cup in Muscat, Oman.

Kenya started the inaugural tournament on a high note after thrashing New Zealand 6-1 before going down 7-2 to Trinidad and Tobago and are currently second in pool C with three points, same as third-placed New Zealand.

Trinidad and Tobago are topping the group with four points with Australia at the bottom with only one point.

Strathmore University hockey head coach Meshack Senge has hailed the team for the impressive performance

“Kudos to the boys and a big congratulation to the technical team, but we must not be comfortable, those are two games gone, on to the next and prepare the same way.” Said Senge.

A dramatic finish is expected in the third round of matches with the top two teams in each pool qualifying for the last eight.

All the four teams still stand a chance to proceed in the tournament with the Kenyans in action at 12pm.
