High Rising Kinale Girls Win Safari 7s trio award
The 2024
Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA)
runners-up Kinale Girls High School delivered an outstanding performance to
claim victory at the ongoing Safari 7s in Machakos County.
The
central region school dominated the tournament, sweeping the Under-18,
Under-16, and Under-14 girls' categories to take home a triple crown.
Kinale's
Under-18 team, under the guidance of Coach Allan Bush, kicked off their title
campaign with a solid 24-5 win over St. Teresa’s High School on Friday, setting
the stage for a flawless tournament.
Their
momentum only grew stronger as they thrashed Katwanya Secondary School with a
resounding 55-0 victory in their second match.
The team
continued their impressive run by defeating Kivuti Secondary School 33-0 in the
third game, maintaining a clean sheet and sending a strong message to their
rivals.
In their
final match, Kinale faced St. Teresa’s once again and secured a commanding 38-0
win to clinch the Under-18 title.
Kinale's
success at the Safari 7s is a testament to the school’s rapid rise in rugby.
Since the
sport was introduced at the institution late last year, the team has shown
tremendous growth, making their first appearance at the Kenya Secondary School
Sports Association (KSSSA) nationals earlier this year in Kisii.
They
finished as runners-up to St. Joseph's Kitale, earning a maiden ticket to the
East Africa championships, where they again secured the second position behind
St. Joseph Kitale.
The
school's triumph at the Safari 7s was further highlighted by the stellar
performance of speedster Rose Okwemba, who emerged the tournament's top
try-scorer after touching down eight times.
Eagle
Community rugby team won the Under-18 boys category after winning three out of
their four round robin matches to bag 9 points.
