High-flying Maseno United United eye FKF Div. II berth

Maseno
United FC chairman George Atetwe has expressed confidence that his team, which
is currently featuring in the Western Regional League Zone B, will qualify for
the Division 2 League next season.
Atetwe
says the new club management committee that was brought on board last year has
proved its ability, beyond reasonable doubt it can, to steer the Maseno
Vocational Training Center-based club to greater heights.
“We took
over this team last year when it was in position 11 in the western regional
league zone B table, but as we speak, the team has risen to position four with
sixteen points,” Atetwe said.
“To
achieve this, we have brought on a board a new coach to help inject the
required tactical skills in the team,” he added, allaying fears that the move
by the management to procure services of Francis Rakwaro Obaado as one of the
Maseno United tacticians was in no way demotion of the club’s head coach Fred
Khagari.
“What one
tactician misses, the other may see; hence, combined efforts will work to our
advantage as we pursue the Division 2 slot next season. Fred Khagari remains
Maseno United's head coach.” Atetwe assured.
Maseno
United is tied on sixteen points with Ivonda Kings United and Riambuka Sportif,
although goal differences separate the three teams.
Notwithstanding,
George Atetwe has said the transport challenges and players' upkeep remain the
major challenges in nurturing and exposing raw football talent in villages,
urging well-wishers to invest in local teams.
“To
professionalize football at the grassroots, team travelling expenses, players'
food, and upkeep are key for young football development, and we are pursuing
avenues to help us alleviate the challenges,” he stated.
As the
Western Regional League enters its second leg next month, Maseno United will host
the eighth-placed ODM FC at the Maseno Vocational Training Centre Grounds next
Saturday.
