Head Coach Ocholla: Gor struggling to feed women's team, pay club house rent
Gor Mahia Queens head coach Francis Ocholla now says the team is in deep financial crisis, revealing they are struggling to pay their club house rent.
The women’s team has not had a permanent sponsor or partner ever since they joined the NSL in their debut this season ‘’We are facing uncertainty since we are struggling to even pay club house rent. Ever since the operations manager Jolawi Obondo resigned, keeping our girls in training and catering for their welfare is proving difficult,’’ claimed Ocholla.
According to
the tactician, almost half of the team was scouted from the rural villages
hence they need to stay in the club house. Other than facing difficulty in
honouring the rent agreement, Ocholla says even feeding the players and paying
allowances has been a headache.
‘’These ladies need to live well and even feed
well. We are currently footing bills as the technical bench and also getting a
little aid from friends. We dearly need support,’’ added the tactician.
On the pitch,
the coach however says the team is doing well having lost only one match against
Kayole Starlets, out of their last five NSL assignments.
‘’I can say the
ladies are determined to make ends meet despite the difficulty. In our last
five matches, we have only lost once to Kayole Starlets, meaning our performance
is on the right track.”
The CAF C licence holder coach believes the
talent in the Queens Squad can propel them to the Kenya Women Premier League
next season should the welfare of players be addressed.
‘’I am appealing to well-wishers to come up to
the rescue of our team. As it is now, we are going backwards since at this
point, our players can be easily poached by well off teams.’’
The women’s team has not had a permanent
sponsor or partner ever since they joined the NSL in their debut this season.
It is a requirement of CAF that every team qualifying to participate in
continental Club titles must have a female team as well.
