Harambee Stars 'two-good' for Tanzania in Mapinduzi Cup
Boniface Muchiri and Tusker FC’s hotshot Ryan Ogam scored one goal apiece as Harambee Stars defeated Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars 2-0 to get their Mapinduzi Cup campaign back on track at the Gombani Stadium in Zanzibar on Tuesday evening.
Ulinzi Stars’ Muchiri broke the stalemate in the 55th minute after capitalizing on a rebound before Ogam, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League top scorer, slotted in the second goal in the 69th minute.
It was Ogam’s maiden international goal in his second appearance for the national team as he continued his rich vein of form that has seen him notch 13 goals in 11 FKF Premier League matches this season.
Tanzania pressed for a goal in the dying embers of the game but Kenya’s defence stood firm to hand interim coach Francis Kimanzi his first win of his fourth stint with the national side.
Kimanzi made three changes to the squad that drew 1-1 against Burkina Faso in their opener on Saturday, introducing the Gor Mahia trio of Austine Odhiambo, Sylvester Owino and Alphonce Omija as well as Tusker Chrispine Erambo.
The win saw Kenya top the standings on four points, ahead of Burkina Faso who beat Zanzibar by a solitary goal on Monday.
Stars next face hosts Zanzibar on January 11 at the same venue.
