Harambee Stars’ chances of qualifying for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are in jeopardy following consecutive losses to Cameroon.

Kenya was beaten 4-1 in Yaoundé before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in the return leg played yesterday in Kampala, Uganda.

To keep their qualification hopes alive, Kenya must now win both of their remaining matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia in November. Securing six points from these two games would bring Kenya’s total to 10 points.

The Stars would, however, still need a favor from Cameroon to defeat Zimbabwe to advance. Head coach Engin Firat remains hopeful that this scenario is achievable.

"We’re in a tough situation, but our job is to win the last two games and see what happens," Firat said.

If Zimbabwe manages to beat Cameroon, they would move to 11 points and qualify for AFCON even if they lose to Kenya. In the event Zimbabwe draws with Kenya, they would reach nine points, leaving Kenya with only five, which would end the Stars’ chances.

Former Kenyan international Fred Ambani emphasized the importance of winning both remaining matches.

“The players need to understand the situation and realize they are representing the country. They have to work hard and give their best in the last two games. Anything is possible if they believe,” Ambani said.

Cameroon, having already secured their qualification with 10 points, cannot drop below second place. Their final two matches will be mere formalities.

Despite the challenges, former Harambee Stars team manager Willis Waliaula urged Kenyans to continue supporting the team.

"Cameroon is a five-time African champion for a reason—they’re not easy to beat. We shouldn’t give up on our team. Let’s support them until the end," Waliaula asserted.

Kenya’s next match is against Zimbabwe on November 11th, followed by a crucial clash with Namibia on November 19th.
