Harambee Starlets vs Albania friendly cancelled
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced the
cancellation of Harambee Starlets' planned international friendly against
Albania less than a week before it was due.
The game had been scheduled for April 11 in Tirana but is now
off following consultations between the FKF and the Ministry of Sports.
"This painful decision has been arrived at due to
logistical challenges that have made it impossible to travel and arrive in
Albania on or before April 11 despite concerted efforts by all concerned.
"Even so, the federation remains committed to the
wholesome development of football in Kenya and is actively engaging other
countries, with a view of finding a suitable friendly match for the Starlets in
the next FIFA window," FKF CEO Barry Otieno said in a statement.
The team's camp has been cut short and the players released
back to their clubs, FKF said.
Kenya broke its lengthy absence from international football competition
last week when Harambee Stars lost 2-1 in Tehran.
FIFA suspended Kenya in February 2022 due to government
interference but the ban was lifted in November last year.
