Handball: Matumbo stars as GSU edge Hammers at Nyayo

GSU dug deep to register a 34-27 victory over Hammers, in a Kenya Handball
National Men’s League match played at the Nyayo Stadium handball court on
Sunday.
Lewis Matumbo scored
the most goals for GSU (6) to give them the win, while Philip Oscar scored six
goals for the Hammers side.
GSU dominated the game
in the first half, with their aggressive defence and their fast breaks leaving
the Hammers with no chance, while the Hammers came in the second half with much
aggressiveness but without gain.
With the victory, GSU rose to position 11, gaining eight points after winning all their 4 matches,
while Hammers are position 20th after the loss.
"I’m glad for the
victory today although I’m not satisfied with the decisions made by the
referee," GSU head coach Joseph Okemwa speaking after the match.
"Currently, the
league is experiencing a stiff competition, this is because there are more
teams in the league compared to last season," Okemwa added.
"We started the
match at a low pace but we returned during the second half with more
energy," Kipkemoi Elvis, Hammers captain giving his remarks in the second
half.
"We are going back to the drawing board and we will on our chemistry as a team,” he added.
Meanwhile in the women
Handball League, NYS outplayed KBL to clinch a 29-26 victory, while Mountain
