GSU outwashes Kenya Army to maintain their unbeaten run

Defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) saw off stubborn Kenya Army 3-1 to maintain a perfect start of the season in the men's Kenya Volleyball Federation League in a match played on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

The defending champions were on a cruise in the first and second sets hammering their rivals 25-19 and 25-16 respectively.

However, a poor reception in the third set saw GSU suffer a 25- 23 loss in a tightly contested set forcing them to redeem themselves in the fourth set which they won 25-21.

Following the win, head coach Gideon Tarrus hailed his troops whom he also urged to remain focused on their upcoming fixtures.

"In the reception, our players lost concentration something that cost us some sets. Everybody makes mistakes but I am glad we corrected them and took the glory," said Tarrus.

In another contest, KDF thrashed Nairobi Prisons 3-0 in one of the most thrilling encounters of the season.

The first set of the contest was pure drama as Nairobi Prisons forced KDF to an extra play as both teams were not ready to give up the tie. At one point of the game, Nairobi Prisons led the match by 21-16 before KDF resurgences to carry the day with a thrilling win of 34-32.

KDF, however, gave Nairobi Prisons no chance in the second and third sets which they won 25-22 and 25-19 respectively.

Following their victory. the army's head coach Elisha Aliwa praised his players who he urged to maintain the momentum as they target the playoffs.

"We had yesterday's hangover hence we needed to redeem ourselves in the apex of the first set by increasing our service and blocks to seal off the tie," said Aliwa.

In regards to the preparations for the playoffs, Aliwa said that they have experienced players to help them fight for a slot in the upcoming games.

"We had better recruitment this season who will help us alongside our experiences players fight for a place in the playoffs," he said.

 Earlier on Equity won 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-17) against KFS while Kenya Prisons rounded their three-game win over the weekend by thrashing Western Prisons 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-12). In another match, KPA also beat Vihiga County 3-0(25-12, 25-17, 25-16).

Kenya Prisons now tops the log with 27 points, two points ahead of KDF with GSU sealing the third spot with 24 points having played two fewer games.
