Former national champions General
Service Unit (GSU) maintained their dominant form with a commanding 3-0 win
over Kenya Army in the Law Enforcers Derby of the Kenya Volleyball Federation
(KVF) Men’s Kenya Cup.
The match, held at the Moi
International Sports Centre Indoor Arena in Nairobi on Sunday, saw GSU cruise
to victory with set scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-20, silencing Kenya Army’s
supporters.
The win marked GSU’s second triumph
of the weekend, following a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Equity Bank on
Saturday (28-26, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22) in their final Pool A match.
GSU head coach Gideon Tarus
commended his team’s performance but emphasized the need for further refinement:
"Today's game was quite good. I really thank my players for executing our plan. However, there are still areas we need to work on as we head into crucial matches. We've been learning from each game since last year, and while mistakes are there, I know we will improve," Tarus said.
Kenya Army head coach Ali Adan
remained optimistic despite back-to-back losses:
"I had a game against APK where I identified and rectified some mistakes, but applying the same techniques today didn’t pay off. I trust my players, and I know they will come back stronger."
Kenya Army had also suffered a 3-0
defeat to APK on Saturday, with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-23. Adan
acknowledged GSU’s strength but vowed to regroup:
"GSU has been a strong team since last year, but we have to step up," Adan added.
