Greening of Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex Begins Ahead of Talanta Hela Competition

Eliud Kipchoge sports complex which sits at the heart of Kapsabet town was established by the Nandi county government in honour of accomplished Marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.

The sports complex is a state-of-the-art sports facility that upon its completion will house a gym, hostels, conference room, cafeteria, counselling classes, physio clinics and several federation offices.

This facility is expected to help several sportsmen and women at the grassroots level.

The beautification of the facility is in preparation for the Nandi Talanta Hela edition scheduled to take place in line with the government’s bottom-up economic transformation agenda.

 Nandi County Sports, Arts, Culture, Social and Youth Affairs chief officer Beatrice Chemurgor said the county government in partnership with the national government is in the process of scouting for football talents both men and women.

She said the aim of this tournament aims at identifying, recruit, nurturing, marketing, and monetizing talent in the county.

"The project is 90% complete; we will equip the facility with a gym in the next financial year. We want to operationalize the cafeteria and begin the beautification of this facility.

“We are planning for the Talanta Hela program which was launched by President a few days ago and on 23rd June we will launch our edition at Kapsabet" Chemurgor said.

Scouting and identification of talents will be carried out in 30 wards where each team will assemble 23 young players aged 18-19 years.

The selection process in the wards is slated to take place between 24th June and 9th July 2023 and the teams that will emerge victorious will proceed to sub-county level.

The sub-county competition is scheduled to take place on the 15th and 16th of July 2023 while the finals will be played on the 5th and 6th of August at Kapsabet.
