World Tong Il Moo Do Federation president
Grand Master Takamitsu Hoshiko has hailed Kenya's commitment to the growth of
the sport, saying it adds much value in their strides to inclusion in future
Olympic Games.
In his media address on Sunday morning in
Mombasa, Hoshiko said he is impressed by the local federation’s commitment to
promote the game in Kenya, pledging full support in its growth.
He particularly singled out the efforts
exhibited by Kenya’s Tong Il Moo Do boss Clarence Mwakio, who is also the
president of the sport in Africa.
"Master Clarence loves the game and I’m
impressed with his commitment so far. The update he has given me is impressive,
we are committed to make sure that in future the game is part of the Olympic
Games. We believe this dream will be realized soon," said Hoshiko.
Clarence Mwakio on his part insisted on the
importance of the game being developed from the grassroots in Kenya, saying
they are targeting to expand the game in the entire country by 2025.
"This sport is about passion and
commitment. The love of the game we have pushes us to make sure that we
introduce it to young players and make it solid from the grassroots. That is
how we plan to develop it with the support of all stakeholders," he averred.
The two were speaking before the commencement
of the Mombasa International Open Tong Il Moo Do championship, set to stretch
to Tuesday in the coastal city.
Kenya
is the defending champion of the championship, having won 185 medals in last
year's edition.
