Gor Mahia vice-captain Geoffrey Ochieng says the club is aiming at nothing short of a title defence in order to have another shot at the CAF Champions League. According to Ochieng, every player joining Gor is made aware of the team’s agenda of winning the title.
“In order to
play in the CAF Champions League, we need to win a local league trophy. That is
what we are striving to achieve and nothing short of it,’’ said Ochieng
Gor have perennially
bagged the league title but failed to make an impression in Africa, but
Ochieng, buoyed by the point picked in weekend's draw against AFC Leopards in
the 96th Mashemeji Derby, says their goal is to retain the crown, and make
another shot at continental football.
“We did not feel so disappointed with the
barren draw. It is better to walk away with a point rather than playing for 90
minutes and leaving empty handed.’’
The long-serving
left back says every team in the league is aware of Gor’s speedy passes and
they have been trying not to let Gor hold the ball. Ochieng says that is what
almost disorganised them in the first 15 minutes.
‘’Our opponents
knew our kind of game. They did not let us hold the ball. We, however, quickly
changed our tactics and managed to make some attacks,’’ added Ochieng.
After the
weekend outcome, Gor sit third on 43 points, five adrift of Police who top the
table on 48 points. Tusker are second on 47 points.
Gor Mahia next
play against KCB at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday, April 6 before
playing away to Sofapaka on April 9.
