Gor resume training ahead of Kitara friendly
FKF-PL Champions Gor Mahia have
resumed training after the Christmas break ahead of their friendly match
against Ugandan top-tier side Kitara FC.
The match will be played on January 2
at the newly renovated Siaya Stadium, with President William Ruto and his
Ugandan Counterpart Yoweri Museveni expected to attend.
Team manager Victor Nyaoro says the
match will be a good build up to their first FKP PL match in 2025, against
Tusker FC on January 4
‘’We have already resumed training.
You know we have a friendly match against Ktara FC and also a League match
against Tusker FC in a span of one week. We are taking nothing for granted,’’
said Nyaoro.
The local giants are training
at the MPESA Foundation grounds in Thika and will set off for Siaya on the
first day of the New Year to honour the friendly fixture. This will be the
first match to be played on the ground after the completion of its renovations.
‘’We had planned to play Yanga of
Tanzania but plans changed since Yanga will be involved in an international
assignment around the same time. All in all Kitara FC is an equally worthy
opponent,’’ added Nyaoro.
Nyaoro has in the meantime underlined
Gor are not relenting in their quest to win their 22nd Premier League title.
“We know the competition is stiff,
but we are determined to finish at the top come the close of this season. This
will entitle us to retain the trophy for good, and this to us is possible.”
Gor Mahia are currently third in the
standings with 24 points, three short of leaders KCB, but with a match at hand.
The 21 times champions, however, are
still in search of a permanent coach with Zedekiah Otieno still acting as the Head Coach.
Meanwhile, the Right Honourable Raila
Odinga today toured the Stadium in preparation for receiving the two heads of
states as chief guests on January 2. Raila was accompanied by Siaya Governor James
Orengo.
In his address after the tour, Raila
commended the County Government of Siaya for the milestone, noting that the
completion will open avenues for FKF Premier League matches to be staged at the
venue.
