Gor make it three wins on the bounce, Police stun City Stars
Sylvester Owino, Austin Odhiambo and Christopher Ochieng all found the net in the first half for the reigning champions with Emmanuel Osoro and Bernard Odhiambo scoring either side of half-time for Talanta as Gor Mahia held their nerves to claim all the three points.
Owino opened the accounts for K’Ogalo in the 13th minute plundering in a rebound following a precise free-kick delivery from Austin Odhiambo but Osoro restored parity for Talanta in the 22nd minute.
Gor troops continued to camp in the opponents’ back yard and their pressure paid off yet again as Odhiambo struck a sensational curved shot past hapless Talanta shot stopper Robert Ouma in the 33rd minute.
Ochieng extended the lead again with the record champions leading 3-1 at the break.
Talanta resumed the second half with a renewed resolve and their efforts bore fruits in the 67th minute as skipper Bernard Odhiambo converted from the spot after Erick Otieno was brought down in the danger area.
The win lifted Gor Mahia up to fourth on 17 points, five behind leaders KCB who have played one more match as Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno continued to right the ship since picked as a stand-in coach following the sacking of Brazilian coach Leonardo Neiva.
Earlier on at the same venue, Police FC stunned Nairobi City Stars 3-1 to hand Burundian coach Etienne Ndayiragije first win in his first time of asking after he was appointed last week.
The win saw the law enforcers rise from the bottom of the league to 13th on 11 points and have played two fewer matches.
In another midweek tie played on Wednesday, Shabana were held 1-1 by Posta Rangers at Gusii Stadium.
