Treasurer Dolfina Odhiambo has opposed Club chairperson Ambrose Rachier`s
proposed leadership model and the joint ticket of Chair- Vice Chair as the club
heads to the polls set for April13
Dolfina who is aiming
to be the new club chief will at the same time be challenging Rachier for the
Chairmanship position.
She stated that
the Gor constitution, passed in 2019, only provides for single tickets and that
amendments of that matter can only be made during an Annual General Meeting,
duly constituted and passed by members.
At a press conference
on Monday where he announced his re-election bid, Rachier had suggested a
leadership model akin to the country’s presidency and the Football Kenya
Federation (FKF), but it was met by a strong opposition from Odhiambo who
termed it a selfish motive, that only seeks to satisfy the chair.
She claimed that her absence from the Monday briefing
is because she was not invited, terming it “unfortunate to see letters bearing
a false signature purported to be hers”.
“I wish to
remind Mr. Rachier[Ambrose] that Gor
Mahia’s constitution only provides for a single ticket. Any changes can only be
made at an AGM and passed by members. Mr. Rachier should not try to mutilate
our laws for his selfish ambitions,” she said.
“I saw some letters
flying around with a strange signature on my name, claiming I was present at
meetings I never attended. If you check keenly, that signature does not belong
to me,” she asserted.
On why she chose
to join the leadership contest, Odhiambo stated that she is intentional on
where she wants Gor Mahia to be in the next five, 10 or 20 years and her
candidacy is not just about today, but rather a focus on securing a brighter,
stronger and more sustainable future.
'My experience
has prepared me to take Gor Mahia to the next level. I understand the
challenges we face but more importantly, I have the solutions. My leadership
will be built on integrity, inclusivity and results. "
At the same
time, she expressed dissatisfaction with the electoral committee to be chaired
by Mr. Wahome Gichu questioning why the said committee did not get vetted as
required by the constitution especially the inclusion of a member who has once
served as an electoral committee chair making them a conflict of interest. She
challenged the election date being set the same day as the AGM and wondered how
that is supposed to work.
"I would
even prefer, the Sports Registrar to give us a committee, because you can
imagine, you are a candidate but at the same time the referee, how does that work?
These people should have been vetted at an AGM, but again the AGM and the
election are on the same day."
