Gor Mahia to hold club elections on April 13

Gor Mahia chairman, Ambrose Rachier, has thrown his
hat into the ring and will defend his seat in the forthcoming club elections set for April 13, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, where he unveiled the club's election road map, Rachier affirmed he is in the race for the top
seat, citing the club's constitution together with a Sports Tribunal ruling of January 15, 2025, which he claims
allows him to contest for a 'second term' in the office.
The elections will coincide with
the club’s Annual
General Meeting (AGM) and will take place at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium from
7am.
“I am in the race, very much
in the race. I have just read Regulation 20, I have
shown you the constitution of the club 2019, we held the first elections in 2020, we have
served the first term of four years, so we are all eligible to serve the
second term,” noted Rachier.
The long-term Gor boss maintained that he does not pay any attention to
the naysayers and that Gor's main focus is on football and its top most
priority is to win trophies daring those opposed to his candidacy to go to
court.
K’Ogalo have won a
record 21 Kenyan Premier League titles, and also prides itself as the first and
only Kenyan team to win
an African continental title to date, having clinched the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1987 after previously reaching the final
in 1979.
The Gor Mahia
elections have experienced delays due to court disputes and internal wrangles forcing the Sports Registrar, Rose Wasike, to order the club to hold the
elections within 90 days.
Candidates seeking to vie
are expected to tick the eligibility checklist that includes, being above 18 years of age
and in possession of a valid national
identity card or passport, a duly filled nomination paper, be a registered club
member, have clearances
from the DCI, the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), EACC, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Kenya
Revenue Authority (KRA) among other eligibility criteria specified under the Sports Registrar Regulations.
The Executive Committee announced that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct the elections after successfully managing the Nairobi Club elections a few months ago.
