Gor Mahia target more players in mid-season transfer window
Kenyan Premier League (KPL) defending champions Gor Mahia are keen on bolstering their squad in mid-season transfer window that opens on Janury 31, 2025 to 28 February.
K’Ogalo
who are placed fourth on the KPL log on 24 points after playing 15 games, will
be actively involved in the transfer market with an aim to strengthen key departments
in the team.
Speaking
to Citizen Digital, the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Raymond Oruo
stated that they will be looking at an out and out striker, a goalkeeper and defenders.
“We
will be looking at doing some business this coming transfer window. We are
particularly looking to strengthen striking positions so we are looking at an
out and out striker, a cover goalkeeper because we have realised there is some
weakness there…. and there is need to look at right back position,” said CEO Oruo.
Among the players set to be roped in are former Gor defender Dennis Ng’ang’a who left the club two years ago to join Zambian giants Zanaco.
Ng’ang’a has been training with the team for some time now under the watch of the technical bench and if offered a contract, it will be a good addition to the side going by his performance while he was at the club.
“Currently, we have Dennis Ng’anga who is currently training with the team and we are looking at his suitability to cover the central back position and may be if we can get a natural winger but that’s not urgent so, a striker, a goalkeeper, a right back and may be a central back at the moment. Basically we are looking at about four or five positions this coming transfer window,” he added.
Last
week, Gor Mahia head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno said that the focus at the
moment is on the players they have until the transfer window is opened: “For
now, focus is just on the team we have because the transfer window is not yet opened.
We have to wait.”
Gor Mahia recently extended the contracts of two longest serving players, Philemon Otieno and Ernest Wendo to the end of the season - their contracts had expired this January.
