Gor Mahia take on Rangers, Leopards tackle Soldiers as league resumes
Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno says, the defending champions are keen to keep their unbeaten run going when they take on Posta Rangers in a top of the table Football Kenya Federation (FKF) league clash at the Kenyatta stadium in Machakos on Saturday.
The K'Ogalo skipper is wary of the quality that the mailers possess in their ranks but is however, optimistic about starting the year on a high note when they travel to the John Kamau-led side.
"It’s a tough game considering that Posta are also doing well this season. We resumed our preparation for the game and we played Nyanza Combined, which gave us a hard time but we managed to win.
"All is well and we are very much optimistic that we will get maximum points and a result over the weekend," noted Otieno.
At the same time, the skipper has dismissed any claims of pressure on his side as they attempt to go invincible and lift their record 21st title.
"We don't have any pressure and we are taking it one game at a time. Our main goal is to make sure we win our games and make sure that we get positive results," said Otieno.
A win on Sunday will see the defending champions open an eight-point gap on Posta in second place while a loss will see the mailers close the gap to just two points.
In other high profile clashes of the weekend, AFC Leopards will hope to shake-off their previous year's blemishes when they play host to Ulinzi Stars on Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium.
Leopards find themselves placing 14th on the log on 15 points - just a point above the relegation zone and a win will see them leapfrog Sunday's opponents Ulinzi, who are placed 12th on 17 points.
At the Police Sacco Stadium on the same day, third placed KCB will welcome high-flying Tusker FC who are yet to lose in their last six fixtures having won three consecutive matches.
A win for the Brewers could see them leapfrog the Bankers who are place third on 27 points - level with Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari behind them on goal difference.
Other clashes will see fourth placed Kakamega Homeboyz travel to Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday to take on Police while troubled Shabana play host to Muhoroni Youth at the Raila Odinga stadium in Homa Bay on the same day.
