Gor Mahia’s purge continued on Wednesday afternoon with the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ray Oruo being the latest to be relieved of his duties.
His sacking follows the firing of the entire technical bench, including interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and security personnel, in what the record FKF-Premier League champions described as a “mutual separation.”
“Gor Mahia Football Club wishes to announce that it has mutually agreed to part ways with Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ray Oruo. We thank Mr. Oruo for his service and contributions to the club during his tenure and wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” club’s vice-chairperson Sally Bolo said in a statement.
“The club will advertise the vacant position in the coming days,” she added.
The sweeping changes come after an underwhelming season that led to a sharp downward curve at a crucial point, as the former champions relinquished their league title to Police FC.
Gor Mahia also lost the FKF Cup final to Nairobi United last weekend, sinking to a new low after ending the season trophy less for the first time since 2013.
The wheels started falling off the Kenyan giants in April after tensions within the technical bench arose following a spate of ugly confrontations that spilt into the public domain.
The discord escalated to a point Gor had to let go the Serbian head coach Sinisa Mihic.
“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the Club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity,” said Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier in the statement on Wednesday morning.
“The separation has been reached amicably and in good faith, with the club recognizing and appreciating the contributions made by the outgoing staff,” noted Rachier. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the Club during their tenure.”
Rachier further assured fans that Gor Mahia remains focused on building “a solid foundation that will support competitive excellence both on and off the pitch.”
