Gor Mahia down Mathare United, stay close to table toppers

By Rohne Otieno

Gor Mahia bagged maximum points against Mathare United at the Dandora Stadium after a 2-1 win today in a league clash.

Despite Mathare’s slow start in the first half, the Slum Boys took the lead with a superb strike from their talented winger Elly Asieche to boost their confidence.

Gor Mahia on the other hand missed out on a great chance to equalize by missing a sitter in front of goal after Shariff Musa played a fabulous cut back in Mathare’s territory.

It was not game over as Gor Mahia equalized from a set piece that was scored by Aphonce Ominja at 35th minute of the first half.

The second half kicked-off with Mathare United setting a low block that made it tough for the green army to break.

Mathare United defensive error gifted Gor Mahia with a spot-kick that was burried by Enock Morrison making it 2-1 to K’Ogalo

Mathare United who sit 14th on the log have hopes of cracking into the middle table as Gor Mahia still occupy third  place and  move a step closer to the title charge on 34 points, four adrift leaders (Police and Tusker) who played to a barren draw in Machakos.
