Gor gradually regaining top form, says Captain Otieno
Otieno said the team has now fully mastered coach Jonathan McKinstry's philosophy who took charge of the team last season.
McKinstry delivered the Kenyan Premier League title Gor had lost to rivals Tusker in the previous three seasons, but in quite a scrappy way as they had to wait until the last match to clinch it.
However, Otieno, who has been at Gor for over six years now, thinks they are in a better position to defend the title convincingly.
“We are playing good football at the moment. The new players have settled in well and adapted to the coaches’ philosophy. Clearly we are going to improve as the season goes by,” said Otieno.
Over the weekend Gor thrashed Nairobi City Stars 4-1 to go level on points with Posta Rangers at the top, after a slow start that had seen them draw 1-1 against Sofapaka in the season opener.
“We stuck to the tactical instructions that we were given by the coach. We were perfected in every department, that is how we won the game comfortably," added Otieno.
On Sunday Gor will be away to Kakamega Homeboyz and the experienced skipper says they are determined to bag maximum points.
“They are one of the toughest teams that will be fighting for the title this season, but I believe as a team we have what it takes to stop them."
