Gor captain Shakava wary of Otoho threat in CAF Confed Cup
Gor Mahia FC captain Haron Shakava says
their CAF Confederation Cup playoff clash against AS Otoho d’Oyo will not be a
walk in the park.
The Congolese outfit presents Gor’s last
hurdle before they can qualify to the group stage round of the continent’s
second-tier clubs competition.
Gor last reached the Confederation Cup
group stage in 2018 when they exited in the same round and Shakava says the
current roster is desperate to go past Otoyo.
‘’It will not be a walk in the park for us.
They are a very strong side and going past them will be a real struggle. We
are, however, prepared to give our all and cannot underrate them,’’ said
Shakava.
Shakava added
reaching the playoff round was further proof of Otoho’s strength and quality.
Otoho lead the Congolese top-flight league
with 66 points from 26 matches, scoring 48 goals and conceding nine during that
period.
Earlier on, Gor’s assistant coach
Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ had indicated that he knew little about the
Congolese side but had acquired their videos for scrutiny.
‘’We don’t know this team. We have never
played them before, but we already have their videos and are studying their style of play,’’ Pamzo said.
Gor were eliminated at the playoff
stage last season by Zambian side NAPSA Stars after losing 1-0 on aggregate.
In domestic action, Gor who top the FKF Premier League standings will play newly promoted side Police FC on Saturday.
