Harambee Stars defender and former Tusker FC captain Eugene Asike has added another milestone to his journey, this time off the pitch.

The seasoned centre-back has successfully graduated from Brighton University in the United Kingdom, where he pursued a course in Strength and Conditioning (S&C).

Asike shared the proud moment on his Instagram page, posting a photo in a graduation gown with the caption: “Building brick by brick and celebrating every win along the way. God’s work na maombi ya Mama.”

Speaking late last year, the 31-year-old, who has also turned out for Kenyan Premier League sides Sofapaka and KCB, said he took the bold step to pursue academics abroad following the expiry of his contract with Tusker, choosing not to renew it in search of a new challenge.

“I wanted to try a new challenge, my contract with Tusker came to an end, and I opted not to renew.”

His time at Brighton University was not just confined to classrooms. Asike got a rare chance to engage with English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, where he worked closely with their S&C department as part of his practicals.

“It is a massive opportunity, to be honest. I got to have sessions with the S&C coaches of Brighton FC, just to put what I have learnt into practice,” he said in an earlier interview.

His academic pursuit highlights a growing trend among professional athletes seeking to diversify their careers and prepare for life after active sports.

While most players gravitate towards coaching, Asike’s path in strength and conditioning offers a fresh perspective.

Asike’s story serves as an inspiration to young athletes across Africa, showing that balancing academics with sports is not only possible but also a smart long-term move.
