Leopards Chairman Boniface Ambani says he wants to be remembered as a leader
who came and changed things radically for the good of the team, by the time he
will be passing over the button.
Ambani is
expected to take over officially today from the outgoing chairman Dan Shikanda,
following his election last Sunday.
The new
regime composed of Chairman Ambani, Secretary General Isaac Mulanda Mulindi and
Treasurer Newton Lime is expected to be at the helm for the next four years
with regaining the lost glory on top of their rule book.
“I just
need to leave a legacy and I want to be remembered as a leader who came in,
transformed the club and put it to international standards,” Ambani stated.
The new
leadership takes over from Shikanda, Irene Walusaga (Outgoing Interim SG) and
the outgoing treasurer Oliver Napali.
Ambani
has vowed to ensure Leopards is felt on the international arena competing with
African giants.
“This
club is an international team and not a local one. The way we are treating this
team is as though we are a local club. So we just need to overhaul it, bring in
fresh blood and incorporate other guys with brains to turn around Leopards,”
Ambani said.
Ingwe
finished sixth on the 18- teams log that ended last month 14 points behind
Champions Kenya Police FC.
Their
last league title was in 1998 when Ambani was among the team’s sharp-shooters,
finishing behind his elder brother Fred Ambani as the season’s top scorers that
year.
Ambani
however knows that sponsorship will be fundamental if his dreams are to come
true.
“We have so many companies that are ready to come in. Junior team can’t be sponsored by a betting company and so we have to look for other companies to do that job. Our senior team can’t be travelling by bus from Nairobi to Mombasa for a match," the former Harambee Stars ace observed.
“We
should be able to look for an airline for partnership to fly these players to
places like Mombasa and Western Kenya to deal with tired legs before matches,” he concluded.
