Four suspects behind the brutal killing of retired marathoner Samson Kandie were on Wednesday arraigned in Eldoret Court and detained for 14 days.

The quartet includes Kandie’s wife Rose Rotich, Jamlick Morogit, Kelvin Were and Felix Murambi.

Kandie, former Vienna City Marathon champion, was hacked to death within his compound at the high-end Elgon View Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County on October 4, this year.

His family found him bleeding and unresponsive in his compound and was rushed to Real Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to a police report, his assailants fled with his phone but nothing else was stolen from the runner during the incident that left shock and panic within the area.

Eldoret Court Resident Magistrate Peter Ireri ordered that the suspects be detained at the Langas Police Station.

He also directed that the suspects undergo a mental assessment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) within the 14-day period.

The case will be mentioned in court on November 7, this year.
