A total of 16 matches are lined up as teams from across the country begin their journey in the fourth edition of the tournament.
All eyes will be on defending champions Ulinzi Starlets, who take on TUK Ravens in Sunday’s early kickoff at Dandora Stadium.
Ulinzi remain the only team to have lifted the trophy since the competition began three years ago and will be keen to launch their title defence on a strong note.
However, they will also be keeping tabs on their league rivals, Kenya Police Bullets. The two sides are neck-and-neck in the FKF Women Premier League standings, with Bullets currently leading by just three points and only two match days remaining.
Vihiga Queens Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Ogada Senelwa has vowed to end Ulinzi Starlets’ dominance.
According to Senelwa, it is not yet done yet for their quest to win the FKF Women’s Premier League but they will add more weight in the FKF Cup.
Vihiga Queens will kick off their Round of 32 FKF Cup fixture against Gene Queens on Sunday, a fixture which Senelwa believes they will easily win.
“I can’t talk more on the technical part of the game because that is the role of the coach but I can say that I believe in my team and I’m sure they will fight well to ensure we win the title. It’s also a good opportunity for the premier league teams to scout talents from the team taking part in the lower ranked teams.”
“I also want to thank the FKF partnership with the new sponsors to ensure they boost the cup, I’m happy that the money will be channeled directly to players and technical bench and that will contribute to the success of the league. It’s my hope that many sponsors will come on board to help the cup and players at large,” added Senelwa.
On Saturday, Thika Stadium will play host to a double header as Gaspo Women take on Kibera Soccer Women at 1:00 pm followed by Thika Starlets playing Kenya Police Bullets at 3:15 pm.
Sunday’s action shifts to Dandora Stadium, where another double-header is on the cards.
Champions Ulinzi Starlets will face TUK Ravens at 1:00 pm followed by Makolanders going up against Kayole Starlet at 3:15 pm.
