Floorball step up preps amid funding uncertainty
The federation’s president, Paul Maina said the government through the director of sports notified them that it was unable to fund their trip to Abidjan.
According to Maina, the Ministry of Sports had advised them to look for well-wishers to fund their travel.
He, however, noted that they have appealed the government’s decision through a letter to the Permanent Secretary and are optimistic they will reconsider their decision.
“The ministry through the Director of Sports wrote to us that the government was unable to fund our trip to Ivory Coast next month. We have, however, appealed the decision through a letter to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and we are hoping for the best,” said Maina.
Maina said the African Championship is a big challenge for smaller disciplines such as floorball which don't receive government funding and can assemble teams and get international accolades.
“It is discouraging that smaller sports go without considerations from the government despite meeting all the requisite parameters set by the ministry, including; presenting our budgets on time,” added Maina
Kenya is the African Floorball Championships after winning the tournament that was held in Kenya in 2019.
