FKF Youth League season 2024 finals set for this weekend

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is gearing up for the highly anticipated finals of the 2024 FKF Youth League set to take place this weekend.

The event aims to elevate youth football to new heights, serving as a premier platform for identifying and showcasing emerging talent.

According to the FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, the league has grown significantly in its second edition, now encompassing 786 teams from six counties namely; Turkana, Kakamega, Kisumu, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Nairobi.

“We are focused on developing players for our national U13 and U15 teams. Many will recall the U-17 Coca-Cola Cup that once united young players to enjoy the game and showcase their skills.

“Our goal is to create something even bigger—an initiative that taps into talent from every corner of the country, inspiring young players to dream of a future in football,” Mariga stated.

The finals will be hosted at various centers nationwide, with Nakuru and Turkana scheduled to hold their finals on Saturday, while Kakamega, Kisumu, and Mombasa will conclude their matches on Sunday. Nairobi will host its finals across both Saturday and Sunday.

FKF Technical Director Michael Amenga highlighted the league’s role in nurturing young footballers, noted its evolution from a small initiative to a nationwide program now operating in 15 centers, with plans to expand to all 47 counties in Kenya.

“When we started, there was skepticism, and participation was low. But we’ve grown steadily, and the results are encouraging. This league has become a key stepping stone for young players to showcase their skills and attract scouts,” he said.

The league’s first edition saw impressive performances, with Rodney Strikers winning the Boys U15 and U13 categories, while SJF and Ladies Musa triumphed in the Girls U13 and U15 categories, respectively.

This year, the competition has expanded to include an U17 category for both boys and girls, in addition to the U13 and U15 categories.

The FKF Youth League reflects the federation’s dedication to grassroots development and the future of Kenyan football. By reaching diverse regions, the league has unearthed immense talent and inspired a new generation of footballers.
