The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued a directive reinforcing its mandate to regulate all football-related activities in the country.

In a statement, FKF has directed that all football matches, trials, tournaments, and academies must now receive prior approval from its national office, in a move aimed at safeguarding players and upholding the integrity of the sport.

Citing concerns over unregulated football events and private academies operating without oversight, FKF states that such activities have exposed players to potential exploitation, especially by foreign and unverified actors.

To curb this, any organization or individual planning to host football activities must submit a formal request to FKF at least 14 days in advance. The request must outline the event’s nature, dates, participants, and proof of safeguarding policies.

FKF further stresses that only the national office has the authority to approve or reject such activities.

Local branches, clubs, or individuals are prohibited from granting permissions independently. Tournament organizers must also consult respective county FKF branch officials and submit relevant documentation for coordination purposes.

In a stern warning, FKF declared that any football engagement conducted without its explicit authorization will be deemed unauthorized. Members found in breach could face disciplinary actions including suspension or deregistration, in line with FKF regulations.

The circular, signed by FKF President Hussein Mohammed, General Secretary Harold Ndege, and Vice President McDonald Mariga, underscores FKF’s commitment to safeguarding players and ensuring all football activities align with FIFA and CAF standards.

This move is expected to bring increased accountability and standardization to Kenya’s football landscape, particularly amid growing concerns over rogue academies and unauthorized tournaments across the country.
