FKF reinstates Mwatate United to the NSL
Early this year, the John Ohaga-led SDT nullified the merger between Dimba Patriots and Mwatate over irregularities in the takeover process and ordered the reinstatement of the latter to the second-tier league.
The development means Dimba Patriots, who jointly lead the NSL standings alongside 3K on ten points, have lost their status and will be expunged from the second-tier league.
“FKF is in receipt of a ruling of case SDTSC No. E045 OF 2023, that in sum, confirms the loss of Dimba Patriots’ status in Kenya’s second tier league, the FKF National Super League (NSL),” said FKF’s acting CEO Patrick Korir.
“Dimba Patriots slot will now be taken up by Mwatate United who made a successful appeal in the case.”
FKF added that Dimba Patriots’ results will also be expunged from the league standings.
“By interpretation, the ruling calls for a nullity, and consequently, all Dimba Patriots results thus far will be expunged.”
Mwatate United CEO Gamariel Mwarabu welcomed the decision but also accused some FKF officials who he said were hell-bent to see the club go under.
“There was a move to have our club fold. Some FKF officials, not all, were determined not to allow us participate in NSL. Some of our players were convinced to leave the club and also we could not access the FIFA Connect,” he told Citizen Digital.
“We will register new players and we’re planning to conduct trials around the region to ensure we’ve a strong squad that will be able to compete strongly in the NSL.”
In September last year, FKF officially sanctioned the merger between Dimba, a fourth-tier club, and Mwatate, with the former taking up the latter's slot in the second tier.
Dimba Patriots were scheduled to travel to Mombasa to face Mombasa United.
