FKF hosts inaugural CECAFA Technical Study Group workshop in Nairobi

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is currently hosting the inaugural CECAFA Technical Study Group (TSG) Workshop in Nairobi.

The three-day event, running from March 13 to 15, 2025, has brought together 14 football experts from across the CECAFA region, including Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Djibouti, and Uganda.

Led by FKF Technical Director Michael Amenga and Tanzania’s Oscar Mirambo, the CAF and CECAFA-backed workshop aims to enhance technical analysis skills, marking a significant step in the region’s football development.

The training focuses on improving technical and tactical assessments, data analysis, and overall football strategy.

FKF Education Officer Salim Ali emphasized the importance of technical data in football development, stating:

"Holding a tournament without data leaves no reference point for analysis and improvement. The lack of data has held East African football back, but with this initiative, we now have a structure to assess and refine our game."

He added:

"I congratulate CAF, CECAFA, and Kenya for hosting this important workshop, which will be instrumental as we prepare for the CHAN tournament and other upcoming CECAFA competitions."

Among the Kenyan participants is Junior Starlets Assistant Coach and CAF Instructor Jackline Juma, who highlighted the significance of the workshop.

"This CECAFA workshop is training football experts in technical study and analysis. Unlike coaching, it focuses on four key components: technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of football. The knowledge gained here will be vital in shaping the future of the game in the region," Juma said.

Former Tanzanian international and CAF Instructor Juma Kaseja Juma acknowledged the workshop's role in refining football analysis.

"I have learned how to analyze a game more effectively. Previously, we often confused the ‘Man of the Match’ with the ‘Best Player’ of a tournament, but now I have a clearer understanding. Meeting experts from different countries has been an eye-opening experience," Kaseja Juma noted.

Ugandan participant Sharon Kiza also praised the initiative.

"In the past, football analysis was based on emotions and subjective opinions. Thanks to CAF and CECAFA, we now have a structured approach to evaluate tournaments, select the best players, and develop content that will help grow the game in our region," Kiza said.

The workshop underscores CECAFA’s commitment to improving football standards through data-driven analysis and expert training. With such initiatives, East African football is poised for significant growth on the continental stage.
