FKF-Div One: Compel raring to go ahead season opener
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division One side Compel FC are
raring to go ahead of their 2024-25 season opener against Kiminini Combined at
Ndura Stadium in Kitale on Saturday.
Despite facing a setback with star forward
Shadrack Simiyu out due to injury, the club’s assistant coach, Dan Ndekerere,
has expressed confidence in the strength and readiness of the squad.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Ndekerere emphasized
that Simiyu’s absence will not affect the team’s overall performance,
highlighting the depth and balance of the squad.
“The injury to Shadrack is unfortunate because he
is completely out of our plans.
“We have several minor injury concerns, but the affected
players have started shaking off and are now training with the rest of the
squad,” Ndekerere said.
“We’re going into this match with the determination to claim
victory and set the tone for the season because we're among the title
contenders.”
The team has been working hard in training to
address some of the early season struggles that plagued their previous
campaign.
Last season, Compel FC faltered in the opening fixtures,
which hampered their promotion ambitions. This time around, Ndekerere is keen
to avoid the same mistakes.
According to Ndekerere, the Webuye-based outfit
has ambitious goals for this season, with a clear target of securing promotion
to the National Super League (NSL).
“Last season, our slow
start cost us in the long run. We’re determined to begin on the front foot and
maintain that momentum this time.
“Our ultimate aim is to push for the top spot and earn
promotion to the NSL.”
With that in mind, Compel FC’s clash with Kiminini
Combined will serve as a key indicator of how well the team has prepared for
the new season.
The match will take place at Ndura Stadium in
Kitale, with kickoff scheduled for 1 PM.
