FKF boss Mohammed calls for stronger media partnerships to elevate Kenyan football

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed is
calling for enhanced collaboration with media houses to elevate the visibility
and growth of Kenyan football.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital during a courtesy visit
to Royal Media Services (RMS), Hussein highlighted the media’s pivotal role in
promoting the local league, national teams, and upcoming continental
tournaments such as the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), and the 2027
Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He expressed gratitude and optimism over growing partnerships
involving media houses, corporates, NGOs, and government stakeholders, noting
they are essential in building a sustainable football future.
“These collaborations will ensure we have the best platform,
visibility, and partnerships to enable our football to grow,” Hussein stated.
The FKF boss acknowledged the federation’s renewed effort to
rebuild trust with the media through transparency and a dedicated media
relations department.
He added that FKF is also planning capacity-building forums for
football journalists to align coverage with the sport’s development goals.
“We are more open, transparent, and now have a dedicated
department handling media relations. We recognize the media’s integral role in
our growth,” he noted.
He expressed optimism about partnering with RMS to attract
much-needed sponsorships, a challenge FKF has faced in recent years.
“It’s not yet easy, but we are making solid progress. Sponsors
are showing interest, and we hope to sign key partnerships soon,” he said,
reassuring clubs across all tiers—including KPL, NSL, and the women’s league—of
better days ahead.
“Some want to start small and build gradually, and we’re open to
that. Expect major announcements soon,” he promised.
Hussein also commended fans for their renewed energy in recent
matches, calling it a clear sign of growing confidence in Kenyan football.
However, he urged supporters to purchase tickets early, adhere to CAF
regulations, and maintain peace at stadiums.
He however called for responsible support, including early
ticket purchases and a zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism.
“We’re thrilled to see fans return, but we ask for peaceful
attendance, adherence to CAF regulations, and early ticket purchases to help us
manage crowds better,” he said.
With major tournaments and qualifiers approaching, Hussein reiterated FKF’s commitment to working with media, sponsors, fans, and global football bodies to secure a stronger future for the sport in Kenya.
