FKF boss Hussein happy with Stars show in Zanzibar
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has expressed satisfaction with Harambee Stars' performance so far in the ongoing Mapinduzi Cup tournament in Zanzibar.
However, he emphasized that the primary goal remains raising and
maintaining high standards while offering opportunities for diverse talent, targeting
on strong showings in the upcoming CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 tournaments.
Hussein’s remarks came after Harambee Stars opened their campaign with a
1-1 draw against Burkina Faso and followed it up with an impressive 2-0 victory
over Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars.
The win placed them at the top of their group with four points, tied
with Burkina Faso but ahead on goal difference. Zanzibar is third with three
points, while Tanzania has yet to secure a point.
“We’re truly impressed with the national team’s performance in Zanzibar
and the quality they’ve showcased so far,” Hussein said.
“The real challenge for any national team is achieving consistency - ensuring
we continue developing talent and sustaining a winning streak. If we don’t
prepare the team adequately in camp to maintain their momentum, standards can
easily drop.”
Harambee Stars are set to face Zanzibar Heroes in their final group
match on Friday, January 10, at Gombani Stadium on Pemba Island. The match will
kick off at 7:00 PM EAT.
Hussein urged Kenyans to remain patient and continue supporting the team
as they strive to improve and achieve success in the Mapinduzi Cup.
He also outlined the long-term vision for the national side, which
includes strong performances in CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027.
“I call on the country to exercise patience as we build and refine the team, making progress day by day. Our goal is to deliver a strong performance in CHAN and later in AFCON 2027.
"We’re encouraged by the strides the team has made - they’re beginning to settle and take shape. We hope to see them reach the Mapinduzi Cup final and lift the trophy. This is just the start of our plans for the national team and the future of Kenyan football,” he noted.
