Fifth-placed MOFA eye NSL top spot
The National Super
League side, Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) head coach, Alfred Chole,
is confident his team will close the gap on leaders Nairobi United by winning
back-to-back wins. This streak, he says, will help them revive their season.
MOFA have endured mixed
results since the turn of the year, winning two and drawing two, which have
relegated them to fifth from second place. Among the two wins, they beat Kibera
1-0 before being awarded three points after SS Assad failed to honor this
fixture.
After securing a point
away from Fortune Sacco last weekend, the tactician praised his players'
fighting spirit, discipline, and hard work, qualities he believes will be key
in the upcoming matches.
Despite their
struggles, the club showed resilience in their most recent fixture, securing a
1-1 draw Kirinyaga-based against Fortune Sacco.
The match saw Brian
Juma put MOFA ahead in the 38th minute. Still, Fortune's determination paid off
when Elvis Mugane struck an equalizer in the 58th in front of a packed Kianyaga
Stadium.
Speaking to Citizen
Digital, Chole praised his players' fighting spirit, which he believes will be
key in the upcoming three matches.
“The fighting spirit we
put against Fortune away from home proved that my team has a strong mentality.
“We scored early in
the first half but again unfortunately conceded early in the second half, but
we managed to come back home with a point against a formidable team when they
are playing at home,” said Chole.
“If we give our full
concentration and capitalize on our chances, I’m confident we will bring bounce
back and get our season back on track,” he added.
“This year, we’ve
faced Darajani Gogo, Kibera and Fortune Sacco. They were tough, but we did not
lose a single match. Next, we are facing Darajani Gogo again, Kibera and 3K FC,
but I hope my team have a chance, and this could be our turning point.
“The difference
between us and the league leaders (Nairobi United) is seven points. If we win
these three matches, we will close the point gap on them,” he explained.
MOFA sit fifth on the table with 30 points from 18 matches, seven behind leaders Nairobi United.
Kibera is third with 33, while Fortune Sacco sits fourth with 32 points.
