Faith Cherotich chuffed at her Diamond League feat, eyes World Championships glory
Olympic bronze medallist Faith Cherotich says working on her speed and endurance was key to her victory in the final leg of the Diamond League that took place in Brussels on Saturday night.
The
20-year-old clocked 9:02.36 to cross the line ahead of Olympics champion,
Kenyan-born Winfred Yavi of Bahrain who
came second in 9:02.87 and Uganda’s
Peruth Chemutai who finished third in
9:07.60.
“After
the Olympics I went back to training and my coach told me I need to work on
speed and endurance. That is where I put in the effort and I am happy it paid
off,” said Cherotich.
Saturday's
victory was her first-ever Diamond League glory in the women’s 3000m
steeplechase and she believes more is to come from her in the coming races.
“It
feels good because it shows I am headed in the right direction, I look forward
to continuing with these trends in the coming races,” added Cherotich.
With the
World Athletics Championships set to take place in Tokyo Japan from 13-21
September 2025, the 20-year-old is looking forward to representing the country
in the competition.
“It is
every athlete’s pride to represent their country in the global event, I will
work hard to make sure that I am part of the team,” stated the Olympic bronze
medallist.
