Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country CEO Barnaba Korir says public interest for both local and international is the reason the event has grown to be the best in Africa

Korir says the patronage has raised the standard of the competition to where it is, and he expects the levels to be higher this weekend when the fourth edition is being held at Lobo Village, Eldoret.

“This event has a lot of public interest from Kenya and around the world because of the level of competition and the proper organization involved in it we have seen that event grow every year and this year it won’t be different we expect a large turnout and that completion to keep on raising standards,” said Korir

Close to 20 foreign athletes are among 947 Kenyan competitors, with Uganda’s Loice Chekwemoi, who won last year’s Chepsaita cross country 10km world record holder Agnes Jebet, being among the notable names.

Korir says the outcome will be key to helping athletes build profiles for more upcoming competitions.

“We have selected athletes based on merit both local and international they are best of the best in every category so they need to use the event to match themselves against others are they prepare for the upcoming competitions throughout the year,” stated the race CEO
