Ernest Oyugi embraces pressure as he seeks to revive struggling Migori Youth FC

Winger Ernest Oyugi has admitted feeling the pressure after rejoining Migori Youth FC amid their struggles in the National Super League (NSL).

Officially unveiled on February 5, 2025, Oyugi featured in the club’s recent goalless draw against Vihiga United before they secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Naivas FC, ending a seven-match winless streak.

The team however secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Naivas FC, with fellow new signing Haji netting the lone goal.

This marked their first win in seven matches, the last coming against 3K FC on December 12, 2024.

Currently sitting 13th on the NSL table with 24 points, Migori Youth remains far from its promotion ambitions.

Despite this, Oyugi is optimistic, citing his experience gained from other teams as valuable to the club’s push for FKF Premier League promotion.

I feel excited to be back. The experience I've gained from other teams over the past one and a half seasons is valuable. Though I wasn’t here at the start of the season, our goal remains the same, to get promoted to the FKF Premier League.

Acknowledging the team’s struggles, the winger admitted that, “There is a bit of pressure at the moment, but we have to step up and help the coach since he is doing his best in training.

Head coach Michael Otieno praised Oyugi’s speed and work ethic, emphasizing his importance in strengthening the team’s attack. Team captain Joseph Karunga echoed the sentiments, believing the new signings will play a key role in their survival push.

At the start, the players were not fully in sync, but we have worked on team cohesion. Our attacking is not yet at its best, but this is just the beginning. We have signed Ernest Oyugi, whose speed will be a great asset,” he said.

With renewed confidence, Oyugi, who previously played for Mofa and Mara Sugar FC, hopes to help Migori Youth turn their season around in the remaining fixtures.
