Equity Dumas eye Umoja scalp as basketball league resumes

The bankers lost key players to Umoja including their head coach Isaac Wanyoike but Adika says his charges will be out to prove a point against the club’s former tactician in the potentially-explosive match.

“It will be a good game for the start of the year. I believe our team is well prepared despite losing some players to Umoja and it will be good to see them again and play against them now that they are wearing a different jersey.

“I just believe the game will be well played and executed and that we can give our fans a good game,” said Adika.

“We also have new players that will be playing for the first time in the league and we believe the training they have received will help them to come through.

It will be a very different Equity than the one people are used to, we are just grilled and excited to see the new look Equity and we will be able to see how far we can go this time round.”

His opposite number Isaac Wanyoike pointed out some of the areas they need to work on in order to register a win in the much awaited game.

“They have better ranking than us as per last season so we just have to play good basketball, execute and run our sets and take care of the ball.

I know the game will come down to rebounding and whoever controls the boards will carry the day so our main focus is to limit our turnovers, control the boards and the pace at which the game is being played at,” said Wanyoike.

Wanyoike, who last season coached Equity Dumas, has urged fans to turn up in large numbers to cheer them.

“I expect the fans to come and fill the stands, come support us, come support your team Umoja and come support the community because this is bigger than basketball, it’s bigger than all of us.”
