Eliud Kipchoge graces Girls Run in Nandi as Jeptanui, Kibet bag the honours
Caroline Jeptanui and Denis Kibet are the winners of the
Rubis Girls Run held Saturday at KapsisiywaNandi County.
Jeptanui emerged the winner in the eight kilometre race, cutting the tape in 21:14. 92 while Faith Jepchirchir came second in 21:15.11 as Leah Jeruto settled for third in 21:35.94.
In the 8km senior men’s category, Denis Kibet outpaced his competitors to bag the honours in 24:29:7 .Longosiwon Reuben came in second after timing 24:33.10 while Jackson Kipleting settled for third place in 24:43. 80.
The run held in Kapsisiywa, Nandi County, brought together over 3,000 girls from local schools who benefitted from the distribution of Sanikits as well as education on menstrual health.
The Girls Run initiative seeks to raise awareness on period poverty and menstrual health. The race sought to empower the girl child through the distribution of Sanikits and education of menstrual hygiene. Furthermore, the run offers an opportunity to support local economy through the industrious women’s groups producing the environmentally conscious reusable Sanikits in the community.
The event was also graced by marathon king Eliud Kipchoge as well as Wesley Korir, the Chief Administrative Secretary for Sports, Art and Gender, and attracted over 6,000 participants.
