Dynamites down Panthers in tight contest

University of Nairobi (UON Dynamites) basketball team have defeated follow varsity side Africa Nazarene University (ANU Panthers) 58-55 in the women's premier league.

The Kenya National Basketball League match was staged at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi that saw Dynamites win their second match of the season as Panthers continued with their winless form.

The hotly contested varsity derby saw UON starting on a winning note as they led first quarter 15-12 before Panthers took charge of second quarter as the game ended at 28 ups at the break.

Dynamites opened a two-point lead in the third quarter after an impressive show winning with a small margin 12-10 before claiming another victory of 18-17 in the last quarter as the game ended 68-55 at the final buzzer.

Dynamites assistant coach Brian was over the moon after the triumph: "We really wanted to get today's win and I am we came and got it.

It was a high tempo game but we still need to work on few areas despite the victory as we prepare for next weekend's games against Zetech Sparks and Strathmore Swords," Busu said.

On his part, ANU head coach Michael Oluoch accepted the defeat.

"We played badly, missed a lot of free throws. Our defense was bad; we had a lot of turnovers. A lot has to be done in the team because the way we are playing is not good at all," Oluoch said.

Jane Kemunto was in class of her own scoring game high 24 points as Susan Jepleting and captain Alisha Ellora added 16 and seven respectively.

On their side Brazeal Waswa was ANU's shining star dropping a team-high 15 points as Yvette Nyawire added 12.

So far UON Dynamites have played five games winning two and losing three with seven points while ANU Panthers haven't won any game as they have lost all the four games played.
