On a brisk April morning in Paris, Dominic Ng'eno clocked a personal best of 2:06:37 to finish fifth at the 2025 Schneider Electric Marathon, a major leap in his promising career.

“The competition here is too high, very challenging race. Many Ethiopians with big times, also Kenyans. Toronto was competitive, but not like Paris,” Ngeno told us after the race.

Born in 1998 in the remote village of Chumbek, Sogoo in Narok County, Ngeno’s path to global recognition has been marked by grit and determination. Before his breakthrough, he chased scholarships in 2019 and 2020, hoping to study abroad. But the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything.

“When Corona started, I faced financial challenges. That’s when I decided to turn to professional running, despite the many hardships,” he said.

Ngeno trains under the Asics banner with Mezzo Management, a partnership that has played a key role in his rise. His first international race came in December 2021 at the Nice Marathon in France, where he surprised many by finishing second in 2:13:00.

He shaved off two minutes in 2023 at the Milano Marathon, recording 2:11:00, before making headlines in March 2024 with a decisive win at the Los Angeles Marathon in 2:10:20—his international breakthrough.

Later that year, he proved his consistency with a runner-up finish in 2:07:23 at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, a race that featured top-tier competition.
