Diani-based coach William Mtana delivers prosthetic limbs to Kwale PWDs

This milestone follows the success of his ‘LEG IT FOR A CAUSE’ campaign, which saw him run an incredible 150km from Diani Beach in Kwale County to Watamu in Kilifi County. The initiative aimed to raise funds for prosthetic limbs, and Mtana’s determination has now transformed the lives of several beneficiaries.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mtana reaffirmed his commitment to using sports as a tool to raise awareness and funds for social causes.
“What we have achieved with the Leg It for A Cause campaign is remarkable. I’m delighted to use my passion to support some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” he said.
In December 2024, Mtana embarked on an awe-inspiring three-day ultramarathon, traversing the coastal counties of Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi. His extraordinary feat of endurance and dedication has now given new hope to children who are the first beneficiaries of the campaign.
“We want to give these kids a chance at a better life. This small gesture could open up opportunities that were once out of their reach,” Mtana noted.
The initiative received overwhelming support from stakeholders in the Diani tourism sector, corporate sponsors, and the Kwale County Government, particularly the Department of Tourism, Trade, and Enterprise.
Increasingly, sports-driven initiatives are powerful tools for mobilizing donor support for community-based programs. Expressing his gratitude, Mtana acknowledged the invaluable contributions of various partners.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this possible. Without the kindness of our sponsors, none of this would have happened,” he said.
